Anti-Inflammatory Smoothie to Reduce Pain

Video by Dr. Justin Thompson

One important aspect in living healthy is nutrition and how we fuel our bodies. As a Chiropractor in East Dallas I am always telling my patients that when we lower inflammation in our body, we can heal faster, reduce pain and function better. This means we are less likely to be injured and can live pain free. The anti-inflammatory mechanisms found in fruits, such as mangoes and pineapples, play a crucial role in reducing pain within the body. Both fruits contain bioactive compounds, such as polyphenols in mangoes and bromelain in pineapples, which have been extensively studied for their ability to modulate inflammatory pathways. These compounds act as natural inhibitors of inflammatory mediators, suppressing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and enzymes responsible for triggering and sustaining inflammation. By mitigating these inflammatory responses, fruits contribute to a more balanced immune system and, subsequently, a decrease in overall inflammation. As a result, individuals experience less pain, as the underlying inflammatory processes that often contribute to discomfort are dampened. The combination of these anti-inflammatory properties in a fruit smoothie, such as the mango pineapple concoction, creates a delicious and effective way to support the body’s natural mechanisms for pain relief, making it a refreshing choice for those seeking both flavor and health benefits.

Research

“Bromelain has demonstrated significant anti-inflammatory effects, reducing swelling in

inflammatory conditions such as acute sinusitis, sore throat, arthritis and gout and speeding recovery from injuries and surgery. Pineapple enzymes have been used with success to treat rheumatoid arthritis and to speed tissue repair as a result of injuries, diabetic ulcers and general surgery.”

“Pineapple reduces blood clotting and helps remove plaque from arterial walls. Pineapple enzymes may improve circulation in those with narrowed arteries, such as angina sufferers”

“Bromelain has a double effect on modulating the immunological response, which is significant for the proper immune system functioning and preservation of homeostasis”

“Bromelain’s ability to trigger apoptosis is undoubtedly one of its essential features allowing for effective inhibition of cancer development and proliferation.”
