Benefits of Green Smoothies with Papaya

Papaya
As I write this, it is currently cooling off outside. When it’s in the middle of winter, I start getting the urge for tropical fruits and a return to summer. Pineapple, oranges, papaya, coconut, guava, passion fruit, kiwi; all tasty fruits that I look at incorporating into my foods. Green smoothies are one of the easy ways that I add them in. I’ve done past info on some of these, but my latest concoction was with passion fruit.
I’ll start with this: I am new to papaya. I’ve always enjoyed it, but it was usually eaten dried as a snack, or on the side of a different meal. So, I went through a few different versions of green smoothies before I found one that was worthy of sharing. It also happened to be the easiest one. Spinach, papaya, mango, water, and my probiotics. That’s it!
This is nice because papaya, along with other orange and red fruits and vegetables, are high in vitamin A. along with being good for our eyes, it is also helpful with immunity, reproduction, and cellular division. Another plus to adding papaya to your diet is the addition of antioxidants. These aid in slowing the effects of harmful oxidation that we are exposed to with normal western diets, pollution, smoking, and alcohol along with other sources. Another great benefit is the amount of dietary fiber found in the fruit. In fact, the mix of spinach and fruit gives enough dietary fiber to act as a prebiotic for the probiotic to thrive. This continues to help with inflammation in the gut as well as give the probiotics fuel to make short chain fatty acids and much of our B and K vitamins.
So, take a break from the cold and take a trip to the tropics in your next green smoothie. Not only will you find it tasty, but it will help keep you healthy too!
