Chia Seeds to Reduce Inflammation

Video by Dr. Bryan Stephens

As Chiropractors in East Dallas our job is to help people with neck pain, back pain, headaches and more. We know a big part of reducing pain is lowering inflammation and a great way to do that is by adding chia seeds to your daily green smoothie. Chia seeds may be small, but they pack a powerful nutritional punch. These tiny black and white seeds are rich in essential nutrients and offer a wide range of health benefits, making them a great addition to a balanced diet.

One of the key benefits of chia seeds is their high fiber content. Just one ounce contains about 11 grams of fiber, which supports healthy digestion and helps regulate bowel movements. This fiber also contributes to a feeling of fullness, which can aid in weight management by reducing unnecessary snacking. It is also important as the good bacteria in our gut feed on the dietary fiber and help turn it into short chain fatty acids. These bacteria also help with the absorption of b vitamins which help our energy levels among many other things.

In addition, chia seeds are loaded with antioxidants, which protect the body from free radical damage that comes from our environment from things such as smoke, pollutants, and other toxins we are exposed to. They’re also a good source of plant-based protein and contain important minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus—contributing to strong bones and overall well-being.

Another benefit of chia seeds is their versatility. They can be added to smoothies, yogurt, oatmeal, or baked goods. When soaked in liquid, they form a gel-like consistency, making them perfect for healthy puddings or as an egg substitute in vegan recipes.

In summary, chia seeds are a simple, nutrient-dense superfood that supports digestion, heart health, and energy levels while being easy to incorporate into daily meals.

“Epidemiological evidences showed that dietary fiber in either soluble or insoluble form helps to reduce weight among overweight or obese adults”
