Chiropractic to Move Well

My job as a Chiropractor is to help keep people moving well and living pain free throughout their whole life. I often tell my patients about a study done in Brazil on how being able to go from standing to sitting on the ground, and then from sitting on the ground to standing was an indicator of life expectancy and quality of life. The study was performed on a group of elderly and showed that by just being able to do those simple movements without using support, you could live an average of 3-5 years longer with a lower risk of overall mortality. I love this because it is based around Hilton’s law. By being able to maintain movement, flexibility, and strength into your elder years, you create a much better chance of not only living longer, but by living better years. These are the things I enjoy sharing because it is what helps focus not just on the pain, but on life in general.
The concept behind the movement is quite simple. From standing, cross your legs while sitting and go all the way to the ground. When standing up, go from crossed legs and extend your knees until you are standing upright. This is done without putting your hands on your knees or needing help to stand up or sit down. Squats are a good way to practice for the test itself as they incorporate much of the same muscles and required knee and ankle flexibility.
Watch the video for some tips, and then let us know how you do. If you are having trouble, continue practicing and keep moving well to allow your joints the best opportunity to perform the exercise. Also, make sure you’re getting adjusted to make sure your joints can move fully and allow your body to go through the exercise. Good luck with the test!
