Chiropractic to Reduce Neck Pain
Video by Dr. Antonio Flaquer
If we look at today’s society you can see most people are in this forward flexes positions which is why most people have some form of neck or upper back pain/stiffness. Well, the reason why is because today’s society is always sitting, looking down at the phone or in front of a computer with their heads leaning forward causing that stiffness in the neck. Now this can lead to other things besides neck stiffness, it can also lead to headaches and migraines which I see a lot now as a chiropractor. One of the biggest things I focus on for my patients in East Dallas are strengthening and stretching certain muscles within the neck and upper back. For example, when we are in this forward flexed position this causes the pec muscles and upper back and neck to be very tight. The muscles that are weaker that we need to strengthen are our rhomboids (the muscles between the shoulder blades) and lats to help keep our shoulders back and down, that way we can have a more upright posture and not slumping forward.
These chin lifts exercises are here to strengthen the deep neck flexors to make sure it helps you keep your head upright so it’s not just the back side of your neck that is trying to help keep your head up high. This exercise alone will not take away the neck pain and stiffness that you’re dealing with, the better way is to figure out why it’s happening and understand the basics of fixing it rather than just brushing it off. Diet and managing your stress are two pieces of the puzzle, the moving part (exercising) is crucial in making sure your joints stay moving and stay healthy.
