Decrease Anxiety and Depression

As Chiropractor’s in East Dallas our focus is treating neck pain, back pain, headaches and more by helping to restore proper motion. We also know how important eating well and managing stress is to decrease pain. Prioritizing getting enough sleep at night is a must, especially if you are dealing with pain. Research continues to show that more people are not getting enough sleep and when they do there are multiple factors leading into them getting poor quality of sleep. “Poor sleep quality decreases general health quality and is associated with physical and psychological problems and a non-optimal amount of sleep is significantly associated with all-cause mortality in older individuals.” Buyesse et al. Exercising is one of the ways that we can help improve our quality of sleep which will in turn decrease our levels of anxiety and depression. In a study by Augustin et al. (2019). They studied the effects of Pilates training on sleep quality, anxiety, depression and fatigue in postmenopausal women. They found that in the group who underwent Pilates training they observed small to medium improvements in sleep quality, anxiety, depression and daytime fatigue.

This study shows that we have to make the time to do movement and while Pilates might not be for everyone at least go for a walk or find a way to get some type of exercise in and you in turn will sleep better which will improve your mood, and decrease your anxiety and stress.

“Faced with these conditions, physical activity is one of the most complete options due to its multiple health benefits, low cost and minimal side effects [15], and it has been associated with lower rates of cognitive and physical decline and a significant reduction in all-cause mortality in postmenopausal women.”

“The Pilates method has been shown to improve physical and psychological functioning, as well as independence in postmenopausal women.”
