Decrease Inflammation with Vitamin C

Video by Dr. Erik Waldeland

Our bodies need a variety of fruits, vegetables, and proteins throughout the week to ensure we are fueling our cells properly to recover and decrease overall inflammation (which is the main driver of pain).  The main ingredient I included in the green drink this month was mango for it’s vitamin C content which helps our cells repair after they have been damaged.  There can be good stress on our cells and tissue such as weightlifting or exercise, but there can also be negative stress on our cells such as smoking or processed foods which create adverse effects on our bodies, which hinders our ability to recover and repair sufficiently.  The real reason we consistently talk about these green drinks and share content with you guys is to shed light on how easy it can be to get the right things in your diet, and how immensely important it is in us getting and staying out of pain.    Below are some key quotes from the research that highlight why vitamin C is one of the many important things we need in our diets daily to keep us on track.

“The main outcome is that vitamin C supplementation is potentially useful as a therapeutic approach for tendinopathy recovery.”

“Vitamin C supplementation, alone or in combination with other products, increases collagen synthesis with a consequent improvement in the patient’s condition. On the other hand, vitamin C deficiency is mainly associated with a decrease in procollagen synthesis and reduced hydroxylation of proline and lysine residues, hindering the tendon repair process.”

When it comes to how we approach pain, our Chiro Health clinics always address the foods and nutrients that our patients consume for this exact reason.  We need to ensure the body has the ability to health from the inside out, because this is important for not only getting out of pain but staying out of pain.
