Decreasing Blood Pressure
Video by Dr. Trent Yeomans
Along with neck and back pain, we see a lot of our patients in East Dallas with high blood pressure caused from high stress levels and poor diet. Potassium is an important mineral that helps keep our bodies healthy, especially when it comes to blood pressure. It works by balancing fluids and helping muscles function properly. Eating enough potassium can counteract the effects of sodium, which is known to raise blood pressure. Foods rich in potassium, like bananas, sweet potatoes, spinach, and avocados, can help relax blood vessels and improve circulation. According to a study done by Poorolajal et al. the research showed that getting enough potassium can lead to significantly lower blood pressure and a lower risk of heart problems. Adding more potassium-rich foods to your diet is an easy way to support heart health and manage blood pressure effectively. Here is a green drink recipe with bananas and spinach and a cup of orange juice which all have been shown to be a great source of natural potassium.
“Evidence has shown that high potassium intake can reduce blood pressure (BP), decrease the risk of developing cardiovascular disease, and mitigate the adverse effects of salt on blood pressure. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends a potassium intake of at least 90 mmol/day (3.5 g/day) from food for adults to reduce BP and risk of cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular events, and coronary heart disease.”
