Get More Protein With This Smoothie
Video by Dr. Trent Yeomans
I’ve always been a fan of smoothies—fast, easy, and packed with good stuff. But this green drink is one I keep coming back to, especially when I’m trying to stay dialed in with my energy, immune health, and recovery. The star of this recipe is almonds—a super underrated source of zinc, protein, and healthy fats.
Zinc isn’t just for when you feel a cold coming on—it plays a big role in how our bodies fight inflammation, heal, and manage oxidative stress (which is basically the wear-and-tear that builds up from life, workouts, or injuries). One article I read recently pointed out that zinc helps block enzymes that create reactive oxygen species, which can damage tissue and slow healing (Mocchegiani et al., 2013). That’s huge when you think about how much inflammation is involved in back pain, shoulder tension, and joint stiffness—things I see every day in our East Dallas office.
What I love about almonds is that they’re easy to throw in a smoothie, they give it a creamy texture, and they help cover your daily zinc needs in a whole-food way. Plus, studies show they’re loaded with other minerals like magnesium and plant-based iron, which just add to their anti-inflammatory punch.
If you’re dealing with pain or tension, dialing in nutrition can give your adjustments and rehab a serious boost. This green drink is a simple (and actually tasty) way to support your healing process from the inside out.
