Green Smoothie with Almonds

Almond Delight Green Smoothie

Nuts are packed with healthy fats and loaded with energy. They are a great snack when on the move. They also pack very easily and are a great choice for long hikes or camping trips. One of my favorite nuts are almonds. The healthiest way to eat them are when they are organic and raw. But the dark chocolate covered ones are awesome. I chose almonds for this recipe not only because they are delicious but I wanted to see what the research had to say about them. I found there were more health benefits than I was expecting.

I found that almonds help gut bacteria by providing them with phytonutrients they can utilize as food. Almonds are also one of the richest sources of vitamin E which is an antioxidant. Anti-oxidants neutralize free radicals that can cause oxidative stress. The research article I found has shown that nut intake can decrease inflammation, promote healthy blood vessels, and reduce insulin resistance. Some may think that nuts can cause excess weight gain because they are high in calories but surprisingly, they are associated with less weight gain and lower risk of obesity. This is potentially due to the high healthy fat and fiber content which makes people feel full longer. This leads to less calorie consumption. When people eat unhealthy empty calories like potato chips they don’t feel full and continue to eat more.

If you give his recipe a try let us know what you think. And remember eating well is one of the three factors that leads us to a state of homeostasis and wellness. Manage your stress and keep yourself moving daily along with regular chiropractic adjustments.
