Heart Healthy Omega 3’s
Shared by Dr. Antonio Flaquer

This vibrant Salmon and Quinoa Bowl begins with a gently seasoned fillet of salmon, pan-seared or baked until just flaky, perched atop a fluffy bed of cooked quinoa stirred with chopped fresh veggies (think cucumber, cherry tomato, and a handful of herbs) and finished with a drizzle of olive oil and a squeeze of lemon. The salmon gives you rich, savory flavor and a deep dose of heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids, while the quinoa provides a satisfying nutty base, complete with fiber and plant-based protein. According to the Cleveland Clinic recipe for “Toasted Quinoa and Salmon Salad,” each serving of this combination delivers about 1,070 mg of omega-3s from the salmon — well within a beneficial range.
But it’s not just delicious — it’s smart eating. Quinoa is considered a complete plant protein, rich in essential amino acids and bioactive compounds that show antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and gut-health-boosting effects. A review described how quinoa’s peptides, flavonoids and polysaccharides may help regulate gut-liver function, reduce oxidative stress and improve metabolic markers. Salmon, meanwhile, brings more than omega-3s: it contributes B-vitamins, selenium and potassium, supporting everything from brain health to circulation.
To assemble: cook 1 cup (dry) quinoa according to package instructions, seasoning lightly with salt and olive oil. While it cooks, season a 6-oz salmon fillet with paprika, garlic powder and black pepper; bake at 400 °F (200 °C) for about 12-15 minutes or until just done. Toss the quinoa with diced cucumber, cherry tomatoes, chopped parsley, and lemon juice; top with salmon and finish with a splash of extra virgin olive oil.
Whether it’s lunch or dinner, this bowl balances flavor, texture and function — a nourishing meal grounded in evidence that supports both ingredients as more than just good for you, but potentially far reaching in health benefits when consumed routinely.
