Improve Back Pain

Video by Dr. Bryan Stephens

As a Chiropractor I know that balance is incredibly important when it comes to improving back pain as well as how healthy the body and brain are.  It is an important indicator of how well the body and brain are communicating through the nerves and with what is called proprioception. This is why we include balance in our exams for all of our patients in East Dallas.  It helps give us an indication of how well the nervous system is working and how the dysfunction is affecting more than just pain.  Yes, chiropractic helps improve neck pain, back pain, and headaches.  That has been proven time and time again.  But there is much more at stake for your health than just being pain free.

We are all familiar with the senses of the body when it comes to sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch, but there is much more to it.  Proprioception can be explained by taking your finger and holding it behind your back.  You know you have one finger held up behind your back.  You can’t see it, smell it, taste it, hear it, smell it, or feel it, but you know it’s there.  That is proprioception.  It is how your brain knows where your body is in space.  When that isn’t working properly due to lack of motion, inflammation, and compensations, there is added dysfunction in the body that can show itself through back pain, lack of balance, improper posture, and numbness or tingling to name a few symptoms.

“The National Health Interview Survey data indicate that, although seeking chiropractic care for balance and dizziness is not highly prevalent, a higher proportion of those who do report that it has helped their condition, compared to all other health professions.”
