Increase Mobility to Reduce Back Pain
Video by Dr. Justin Thompson
Thoracic extension using a foam roller is a simple and effective way to improve the mobility and flexibility of your upper back. When you spend a lot of time sitting or working at a desk, your upper back can become tight and stiff, leading to poor posture and discomfort in your neck and shoulders. Rolling on a foam roller and gently extending your back over it helps open up the thoracic spine, which is the middle portion of your backbone.
This movement loosens tight muscles, reduces stiffness, and improves joint flexibility in your upper back. As a result, it can relieve pain and tension, improve posture, and make everyday movements easier and more comfortable.
By increasing blood flow and releasing tight spots, foam rolling supports faster recovery and can even help prevent future injuries. Adding this exercise to your daily routine only takes a minute or two but can have lasting benefits for your spine health and overall comfort.
