Jalapenos to Reduce Pain

As Chiropractor’s in East Dallas, we teach our patients that reducing inflammation is a key factor in reducing pain. That’s why we share these healthy recipes, like this one with Jalapeños ! Jalapeños are not only a flavorful addition to dishes but also offer several health benefits. Rich in vitamins, particularly vitamin C, they help boost the immune system and promote skin health. The capsaicin in jalapeños, which gives them their spicy kick, is known to have anti-inflammatory properties and may aid in pain relief by blocking pain receptors. It can also boost metabolism, helping with weight management by increasing fat burning and reducing appetite. Jalapeños are a good source of antioxidants, which help protect cells from oxidative stress and may reduce the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and cancer. Additionally, they contain fiber, promoting healthy digestion. The presence of vitamin A and various minerals, such as potassium, supports eye health and maintains proper fluid balance in the body. Incorporating jalapeños into your diet can be a tasty way to enjoy numerous health benefits while adding spice to your meals.

“ingestion of capsaicin—or its less stable non-pungent analogue capsiate—has been shown to boost metabolic rate modestly”

“capsaicin-rich diets have shown favourable effects on atherosclerosis, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, obesity, non-alcoholic fatty liver, cardiac hypertrophy, hypertension and stroke risk.”

McCarty, Mark F., James J. DiNicolantonio, and James H. O’Keefe. “Capsaicin may have important potential for promoting vascular and metabolic health.” Open Heart 2.1 (2015): e000262.

Ingredients
  • 2 boneless, skinless pasture raised chicken breasts
  • 2-3 fresh jalapeños, finely chopped (remove seeds for less heat)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro (optional, for garnish)
  • Lime wedges (optional, for serving)

Use organic options when available.

Instructions
  1. Prepare the marinade: In a bowl, mix together the olive oil, lime juice, chopped jalapeños, garlic powder, cumin, salt, and pepper.
  2. Marinate the chicken: Coat the chicken breasts with the marinade and let it sit for at least 20 minutes, or up to an hour in the fridge for extra flavor.
  3. Grill the chicken: Preheat your grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook the chicken for about 6-7 minutes on each side, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
  4. Serve: Once the chicken is done, slice it and garnish with fresh cilantro and a squeeze of lime juice. Serve with a side of veggies or a light salad for a healthy meal.

This recipe brings a fresh, spicy kick from the jalapeños while keeping things light and healthy. Enjoy!
