Journaling to Reduce Stress
Shared by Dr. Trent Yeomans

In our fast-paced lives, stress can accumulate, leading to physical ailments like back pain, neck pain, and headaches. As a chiropractor, I emphasize holistic approaches to health, and one effective method is journaling. This simple practice can help manage stress, improve mental clarity, and support overall well-being.
A randomized controlled trial published in JMIR Mental Health explored the effects of online positive affect journaling (PAJ) on individuals with elevated anxiety symptoms. Participants engaged in a 12-week web-based journaling intervention. The study found that PAJ significantly reduced mental distress and improved psychological, interpersonal, and physical well-being compared to usual care.
Integrating journaling into daily routines can be a powerful tool for stress management. By writing down thoughts and feelings, individuals can process emotions, identify stressors, and develop coping strategies. This practice can complement chiropractic care by addressing the mental aspects of pain and tension, leading to more comprehensive healing.
Journaling is a cost-effective, accessible method to reduce stress and enhance mental health. By incorporating this practice, patients may experience relief from stress-related symptoms and support their chiropractic treatment outcomes. At our clinic, we encourage holistic approaches to health, combining physical adjustments with strategies like journaling to promote overall well-being.
