Mindfulness to Relieve Stress

Mindfulness to Relieve Stress

Mindfulness isn’t just a buzzword — it’s a proven way to reduce stress and improve health. Yet most people don’t practice it consistently. Recent research shows why that needs to change.

In a 2023 randomized controlled trial, Gallo and colleagues studied university students who completed an eight-week mindfulness program. Compared to a control group, the students who practiced mindfulness experienced lower stress, fewer symptoms of depression, and better sleep quality. These benefits came from short, structured mindfulness sessions each week — showing that even busy people can fit this into their lives.

The study highlights that mindfulness is not limited to students — everyone can benefit. Stress is universal, and so is the body’s response. Making mindfulness a habit is like giving your brain a reset button: it clears mental clutter, reduces tension, and improves focus.

In our East Dallas clinic, Think Well means teaching tools that strengthen both body and mind. Just as we adjust the spine to restore movement, we encourage patients to “adjust the mind” through practices like mindfulness. With a few minutes of daily attention, anyone can experience the benefits this research describes.
