Nutrition to Reduce Aches and Pains

Video by Dr. Justin Thompson

As we always tell our patients in East Dallas, green smoothies are a fantastic way to pack essential nutrients into your day, and this tropical blend of peaches, pineapple, mango, carrots, and coconut milk is both delicious and nourishing. Peaches, in particular, offer impressive health benefits. Rich in antioxidants like polyphenols and vitamin C, they help combat oxidative stress and reduce inflammation, which can lower the risk of chronic conditions such as heart disease and diabetes. Additionally, peaches are a good source of potassium, supporting healthy blood pressure and heart function. Their fiber content aids digestion and promotes gut health while also helping to stabilize blood sugar levels. For added sweetness or protein boost, consider including honey or protein powder. This smoothie is a refreshing way to enjoy the health benefits of peaches while indulging in tropical flavors!

Research

“The richest sources of flavonoids and stilbenes were the fruit group including apple, plum, pear, and peach, followed by the vegetable group containing lotus root and taro. The daily intake of total flavonoids, anthocyanidins, flavonols, flavones, isoflavones, and stilbene were 165.6 mg/day, 27.6 mg/day, 123.7 mg/day, 10.7 mg/day, 3.7 mg/day, and 0.3 mg/day, respectively. Higher daily consumption of anthocyanidins was associated with elevated serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) concentrations (P trend=0.001), and higher total flavonoid and flavonol intakes were associated with lower serum triglycerides (TG) concentrations (P trend=0.020 and P trend=0.035, respectively) and TG/HDL-C ratios (P trend=0.040 and P trend=0.045, respectively) in female subjects. These significant relationships were not found in male subjects.”

“However, it appears that the AT(2) receptor plays a vasodilatory role, and may be enhanced as a countervailing mechanism in cardiac hypertrophy, and in presence of vascular injury in hypertension and atherosclerosis.”

“Fractionation of peach BY00P6653 extracts gave 4 fractions, with fraction F-I (caffeic acid derivatives) showing a strong activity against MDA-MB-435 followed by fraction F-II (anthocyanins). Induced-apoptosis by F-I on MDA-MB-435 was confirmed by Tunnel nuclear staining of cells with apoptotic DNA fragmentation (0-100 μg/mL) with no effects in normal cells (0-200 μg/mL). Selected stone fruit genotypes can be added to the list of fruits with cytotoxic effects against breast cancer cells while not affecting normal cells.”
