Preventing Heart Disease
Blueberries lately have been one of my favorite go to snacks when I want something sweet. I usually add them into a smoothie or just put them in the freezer and they turn into an ice cream texture when you eat them. As a Chiropractor, in East Dallas, I’m always talking to my patients about proper nutrition and what it takes to lower inflammation and prevent pain and disease. Blueberries have been proven to be a super food with benefits of lowering blood pressure, fighting against heart disease and overall being a highly nutritious low-calorie food. In a study done by Cassidy et al. They looked at the effect of high intake of anthocyanins which is an antioxidant that gives blueberries its color. In the study they found a relationship between a high intake of anthocyanins and a significant decrease in heart disease in women. Finding ways to get healthier foods into your diet will always benefit your health and keep you pain free. Here is a blueberry smoothie recipe to keep you healthier.
“Combined intake of 2 anthocyanin-rich foods, blueberries and strawberries, tended to be associated with a decreased risk of MI in a comparison of those consuming >3 servings a week and those with lower intake. Intakes of other flavonoid subclasses were not significantly associated with MI risk.”
Recipe:
All organic and frozen ahead of time
- One cup of Spinach
- ½ Banana
- ½ Green Apple
- 8oz of water
- ¼ cup of Almonds
- 1 cup of blueberries
Blend until smooth and enjoy!
