Probiotics for Reduced Inflammation
Video by Dr. Bryan Stephens
There are three essential nutrients that I discuss with every patient that comes through our doors in East Dallas. Omega 3 fatty acids, vitamin d3, and probiotics are the essential nutrients that we miss out on through our diet that are required for our body to be able to express health. In order to get the proper amount of these, we would need to eat the equivalent of 14 cans of wild caught sardines daily along with 4 jars of organic fermented sauerkraut or kimchi kept in dark jars. This is where supplementation is crucial. Without these nutrients, our body is left exposed to increased and chronic amounts of inflammation which creates so much of the neck and back pain I see along with contributing to the ongoing health crisis in our country. The chronic inflammation leads to the chronic diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, and obesity.
The reason I am putting the probiotics in with our green smoothies is because the bacteria require a good source of dietary fiber in order to break it down into the things we need. This includes short chain fatty acids along with vitamin K. They also help facilitate the absorption of b vitamins in the gut and compete with harmful bacteria for binding sites. The probiotics are helpful in reducing allergies, asthma, and leaky gut along with assisting the immune system in identifying targets properly to help keep us from getting sick.
“the indigenous flora seem to play a key role in preventative functions. In contrast, it has become increasingly evident that many pharmaceutical drugs today often induce increased intestinal permeability and contribute to intestinal leakage.”
“a few probiotic bacteria have been identified that have beneficial clinical effects in conditions such as acute gastroenteritis, food allergy, atopic dermatitis, Crohn’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, pelvic radiotherapy, intestinal inflammation and chemical exposure.”
