Probiotics to Lower Inflammation
Dr. Erik Waldeland
When it comes to getting the proper nutrients from our diet, sometimes (especially nowadays) it can be difficult to get everything our bodies need to function optimally. One of the main supplements we add to most of our patients’ routine is a good quality probiotic. This is important to ensure the gut has the right environment to heal and digest our foods. Approximately 90% of our immune system is also found in our gut, making it even more important for us to make sure we are inhabiting our body with the right things. This recipe, which includes kimchi (a fermented food), provides us with some of those good probiotics to help our bodies fight off invaders, as well as reduce overall inflammation to help us heal faster.
Kimchi, and other foods filled with probiotics, have been shown in the research to be beneficial for multiple systems in the body. The probiotics work by creating a habitat of good bacteria in the gut that allows our body to get the most out of our other foods, while also killing off or fighting bad bacteria that may have entered. Below is the main finding from the research that support our need for healthy probiotics in our system, and supports why we at our chiro health clinics continue to recommend these as a supplement to help our bodies heal.
“Health functionality of kimchi, based upon our research and that of other, includes anticancer, antiobesity, anticonstipation, colorectal health promotion, probiotic properties, cholesterol reduction, fibrolytic effect, antioxidative and antiaging properties, brain health promotion, immune promotion, and skin health promotion.”
