Reduce Knee Pain
Video by Dr. Trent Yeomans
If you’re dealing with knee pain, like many of our patients in East Dallas, terminal knee extensions (TKEs) are a great exercise to help improve knee strength and reduce discomfort. TKEs target the quadriceps, especially the vastus medialis oblique (VMO), which plays a key role in stabilizing the knee joint. Strengthening these muscles can help reduce knee pain and prevent future injuries. As a chiropractor, I focus on strengthening the muscles around joints to improve stability and reduce pain. TKEs help with this by building strength in the quadriceps, which can help distribute pressure more evenly across the knee joint. This helps ease pain and improve overall function. A randomized controlled trial published in The Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy (2017) tested TKEs for people with patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS).
The study found that TKEs “resulted in significant improvements in both pain and function,” helping participants experience less pain and better knee function. This shows that TKEs can be an effective exercise for managing knee pain. Terminal knee extensions are an easy and effective way to strengthen the knee and reduce pain. By focusing on strengthening the muscles around the knee, TKEs can improve stability and prevent further injury. At our clinic, we focus on helping you move well to reduce pain and improve overall function. If you’re experiencing knee pain, we’re here to help you with personalized care.
