Sleep Better with Magnesium

Summarized Review of Conclusion:

In this study they concluded that dietary magnesium consumption was inversely related with falling asleep during the day in women than in men. Consuming magnesium at nighttime help regulate their sleep patterns to maintain a good nights rest. There was nothing found with dietary consumption and daytime sleepiness or snoring at night.

Below I have referenced key quotes from this research to help summarize the results.

Quotes from the Article:

“Magnesium, a cofactor involved in more than 300 enzyme systems, regulates diverse biochemical reactions in the body [8]. Recently, magnesium has also been found to regulate cellular timekeeping in both animal and plant cells [9], thus it is beneficial to maintain the normal circadian rhythms and ensure a quality sleep in humans.”

“The prevalence of self-reported sleep disorder symptoms at follow-up (year 2007) were: daytime sleepiness 13.2%, falling asleep 5.3% and snoring 35.7%.”

Introduction to the Research

The purpose of the research was to determine if magnesium in fact helps improve the symptoms of insomnia and help those with different sleep disorders.

Research Methodology

For the current analysis, we included only those subjects with baseline (in 2002) magnesium intake and sleep records at follow-up (in 2007) (n = 1487) (Figure 1). The study was conducted according to the guidelines in the Declaration of Helsinki, and all procedures were approved by the Jiangsu Provincial Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. Informed consent for participation was obtained from each participant.

Research Findings

The biggest takeaway from this research is understanding the importance of sleep. Sleep is critical for our wellbeing. If you’re struggling with sleep, try using magnesium to help you out, but also understand why it’s hard for you to sleep. A lot of people’s reasons is stress. So, understand where your lack of sleep is stemming from. Is it because you eat poorly and feel lethargic the next day? Is it because you’re not exercising for yourself, or not managing your stress very well. Supplements are not the final answer for you, but they will help you get the ball rolling and make sure you take care of yourself the right way.
