Squats to Strengthen and Reduce Pain
Video by Dr. Trent Yeomans
Like many of our patients in East Dallas dealing with low back pain, squats might be the last thing you think could help—but they can make a big difference. Squats are an excellent exercise for building strength in the muscles that support your lower back, like your glutes, hamstrings, and core. Strengthening these muscles helps take pressure off your spine and can reduce pain over time. As a chiropractor, I often recommend squats to my patients with low back pain. Strengthening the muscles around the spine helps improve posture, stabilize the back, and reduce strain. When done correctly, squats also promote better movement patterns, which can prevent further injury and help you feel more stable in your daily activities.
A randomized controlled trial published in The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research (2016) found that adding squats to a rehab program significantly reduced chronic low back pain. The study showed that “squats helped improve spinal stability and reduce pain,” making them a valuable tool in managing low back discomfort. This research backs up what I’ve seen in practice—squats can be a game-changer for pain relief. Squats may be a simple move, but they’re powerful for reducing low back pain. At our clinic, we focus on strengthening the body to help reduce pain and improve movement. If you’re dealing with low back pain, we’re here to work with you on a plan to help you move better and feel stronger. Reach out today to start your journey toward relief!
