The Chia Pet Smoothie

We all remember the infamous chia pet from those infomercials and most of us probably had one in our household at some point, I know I did. I would have never thought that the chia seeds that grew those awesome little critters were so good for our health too.

Just to name a few of the benefits of the Chia seeds:

  • “Chia seeds are a great source of antioxidants. Our body uses antioxidants to fight the production of free radicals, which can damage cell molecules and contribute to aging and diseases like cancer. “
  • “Almost all of the carbohydrates in chia seeds are in the fiber. This gives them the ability to absorb 10–12 times their weight in water. Fiber also has various beneficial effects on health.”
  • “Fiber also feeds the friendly bacteria in your intestine, which is important — keeping your gut flora well fed is absolutely crucial for health.”
  • They are a good source of Omega 3(still take your Innate choice OmegA&D because chia alone will not give your body the daily dose it needs to stay healthy.
  • They contain Zinc which help boost your immune system

Add some extra chia seeds to your everyday smoothie and it will give you some nice texture and health benefits.
